Introduction to the ethics of social work. Socio-pedagogical study – references to the scientific achievements of Helena Radlińska

The book authored by Prof. Arkadiusz Żukiewicz in 2023 entitled “Introduction to the ethics of social work. Socio-pedagogical study – references to the scientific achievements of Helena Radlińska” is devoted to the theoretical and applied aspects of social service. It applies in particular to the ethics of social work, understood as an activity aimed at improving the conditions and quality of life of individuals, families, social groups and entire societies. This monograph has been published in English.

While referring to the scientific achievements of Helena Radlińska - the creator of Polish social pedagogy, its author combines the perspective of this science with the achievements of philosophy, especially ethics. He aims to identify the ethical foundations of social work. Prof. Żukiewicz refers to aretalogical, axiological and deontological sources. The book completes the philosophical triptych of social work, with its earlier instalments including ontological and epistemological issues.

The publication may trigger scientific cooperation of social pedagogues with philosophers and ethicists as well as psychologists (family psychologists, social psychologists, developmental psychologists), sociologists (sociologists dealing with education, family, culture), familiologists, social politicians, theologians (moral theologians, family theologians), historians, medical practitioners (representatives of health and hygiene sciences), cultural studies experts and representatives of other sciences dealing with issues of human life and activity in the individual and collective dimensions. The results of such cooperation may be used to generate theoretical foundations for the practice of service performed in the areas under the care of social work. The author’s observations are even more interesting because the conducted research embraced both Poland and abroad (countries such as England, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the USA). The project is financed from state budget funds allocated by the Minister of Education and Science under the Excellent Science II Programme.
